About Carrís Wines
Wine begins long before it reaches the glass.
Carrís Wines was born from a way of understanding wine built around care, precision, and respect for every decision behind its creation.
We do not set out to impose a personality on the wine.
We set out to discover the one that is already there.
That is why our work begins in the vineyard, continues in the winery, and ends only when each bottle expresses what we set out to preserve from the very beginning.

Our Story
The Socalcos da Carris winegrowing and winemaking venture originated in 2008 through an investment in viticulture in Balsa do Douro, in the parish of Desejosa, municipality of Tabuaço, in the very heart of the Região Demarcada do Douro.
This initiative was born with the aim of highlighting the winegrowing potential of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.

Our Terroir
Based on vineyards planted on traditional terraces over schist soils that benefit from a unique microclimate, the project was conceived to produce high-quality DOC Douro wines capable of expressing the authenticity, identity and singular character of this terroir.
The region’s natural conditions, combined with rigorous viticultural practices and a careful selection of grape varieties, form the foundation of the excellence of the wines produced.

Our Vineyards
Our wines begin in Balsa do Douro, in Tabuaço, Portugal.
Here, the vineyards stretch across schist-covered slopes, rising from 200 to 500 metres above sea level.
Southern and eastern exposures provide privileged sunlight, while differences in elevation, orientation, and individual parcels create distinct expressions within the same estate.
Understanding those differences matters.
Because for us, winemaking does not begin in the cellar.
It begins by learning how to read the vineyard.

Our Philosophy
The brand’s philosophy rests on dedication, constant attention to every detail and the continuous pursuit of excellence at every stage of production, from tending the vines to bottling.
Socalcos da Carris wines are conceived to provide an authentic and distinctive sensory experience, conveying the unique identity of the Douro through the richness of its landscape, the excellence of its terroir and the winegrowing and winemaking tradition that characterizes this centuries-old region.
Each wine reflects the balance between traditional know-how and the most modern enological practices, expressing the character, authenticity and singularity of the vineyards from which it comes.

Viticulture
Each parcel is farmed with one purpose: to preserve the quality of the fruit and the natural balance of the vineyard.
Viticulture and winemaking work together toward the same goal — allowing each parcel to reach the bottle with as much authenticity as possible.
In the oldest vineyards, much of the work is still carried out by hand, preserving traditional viticultural techniques that have been passed down through generations.
It is a slower way of working.
That is precisely why it matters.

The Winery
Where precision meets patience.
When the grapes enter the winery, a new chapter begins.
Technology serves the wine, never the other way around.
The winery combines temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermentation tanks, automated pump-over systems, French oak barrels, and modern winemaking equipment to guide each wine from fermentation to bottling.
But having more technology does not mean intervening more.
It means being able to intervene with greater precision.

Our Winemaking
Less intervention. More expression.
Our winemaking philosophy is deliberately precise and minimal.
The goal is to preserve the aromas, texture, and character carried from the vineyard, limiting intervention to what the wine truly needs.
A deep understanding of each parcel allows our winemakers to approach every lot with its individual potential in mind.
Then comes one of the defining moments: blending.
Different grape varieties, parcels, and proportions come together to build complexity, balance, and depth while preserving a clear sense of origin.
It is not simply about combining wines.
It is about finding the point where every component makes the whole more complete.

Beyond Borders
The Socalcos da Carris initiative was developed with a strong focus on international markets, with the United States of America, Brazil and Spain as its main destinations.
This strategy aims to promote and enhance the standing of Douro wines in markets with significant potential for growth and recognition of Portuguese wines.
The presence in these markets has contributed to strengthening brand awareness, enhancing the standing of Douro wines and consolidating Portugal’s image as a producer of wines of excellence.
Internationalization is therefore one of the project’s strategic pillars, supporting its growth and the creation of value.
Our Partnership
One of the decisive factors in the success and consolidation of the Socalcos da Carris project has been the solid and lasting partnership established with Quinta da Carregosa.
Over the years, this collaboration has made it possible to ensure high standards of quality throughout the production process.
All grapes from the Socalcos da Carris vineyards benefit, first of all, from specialized technical support in viticulture from Quinta da Carregosa, which ensures the management and monitoring of the vineyard throughout the entire growing cycle, promoting the adoption of the best cultivation and phytosanitary practices to obtain high-quality grapes.
Production is subsequently sent to the Centro de Vinificação da Quinta da Carregosa, where the best enological practices are applied, from receiving the raw material to the rigorous monitoring of fermentation, aging and preparation of the wines for bottling.
This complementarity between viticultural support and the winemaking process has been fundamental to ensuring the consistency, authenticity and high quality of the wines produced, strengthening the brand’s positioning in domestic and international markets.
Carrís Wines
From vineyard to winery.
From fermentation to blend.
From the first aroma to the final nuance.
Every decision has a purpose.
Because for us, attention to detail is not the final step in making wine.
It is how wine is made.
